ComfortGlaze retrofit Double-Glazed the Windows on this Stunning Early 1900's Villa Style Home to Blend Modern Comfort with Timeless Charm.

Objectives:

Improve Insulation

Reduced Outside Noise

Retain Character

Reduced Energy Costs

Each timber window is carefully upgraded using a controlled, specialist process. The existing single glass is machine-cut and removed with precision to protect the surrounding timber. The new rebate is then prepared, primed, and sealed to ensure long-term durability before the double-glazed unit is installed. The unit is supported with setting blocks, sealed with high-performance glazing tapes, and finished with airflow channels to assist moisture management. Finally, flush timber beading is fitted to create a clean, seamless finish that maintains the character of the original window.
Retrofit double glazing
Retrofit Double Glazing

Acoustic laminated double-glazed units combine laminated glass with an acoustic interlayer and an insulated argon-filled cavity. The interlayer absorbs sound vibrations while the double-glazed space further reduces noise transfer, creating a quieter, more comfortable home environment.

Where colonial bars are part of the original character of the home, we can carefully reinstate them as part of the retrofit process. After installing the new double-glazed unit, colonial bar layouts are replicated to match the original design, maintaining the traditional appearance of the window while upgrading its performance.

Our retrofit system upgrades traditional double-hung sash windows with modern double glazing, preserving their original sliding function and timeless character while improving thermal performance.

We also carried out the installation of permanent perimeter draught sealing to the timber sashes and frames. The draught sealing was installed to reduce uncontrolled air leakage while maintaining normal window operation. These improvements enhance the thermal performance of the windows and have contributed to an overall reduction in household heat loss and energy usage, with energy costs estimated to have reduced by approximately 30%.
